Phillip, Peets Coffee,Plants and Purpose.
- by Gillian Larson
Phillip Sheppard from Survivor Redemption Island and Survivor Caramoan + plants + Peets Coffee + a heart to help all equal donations to Michelle’s Place Cancer Resource. See how that all came together
One never knows where another donation for a good cause might come from but Phillip, also known to Survivor fans as The Specialist found his love of plants and his heart for helping others made that happen.
Here is Phillips story:
“I have been going to Peets Coffee on Montana Ave in Santa Monica since 2004 and when an executive came to visit I suggested they put plants out and they graciously did. They care about their community and customers.
Peets is a great place in our community to meet safely as their sidewalk is large and they and the community are practicing safe distancing while staying connected.
Phillip with Melanie Delia, Peets Coffee Manager.
Plants make it a peaceful outdoor oasis to enjoy friends or take time for yourself. The last few years I have been retired as I have several medical conditions.
However, one of my joys that I learned from my mother was potting plants and I enjoy boxes and planters. I noticed recently that the plants could do with some extra care and heard the person who had been taking care of the plants was no longer doing so. I immediately volunteered to water them when I go by there for coffee. It’s an easy way to support my local store and enjoy my morning meditation as I cared for the plants. Additionally, it turned out the staff there are Survivor fans and of The Specialist so that always makes for a fun coffee stop.

I have shared with them how I have a passion to help where I can and one place is when I attend a yearly fundraiser, Reality Rally in Temecula with about 60 or so other Reality Stars to help raise funds for Michelle’s Place Cancer Resource center and give back for my opportunity on Survivor.
I shared with the Peets Executive Bernie DeChellis, all about my passion for Michelle’s Place and shared who they are and all they do to help support people and provide their support services and resources at no cost for people with any form of cancer. I was surprised and delighted when she offered to make a donation to Michelle’s Place which she did.
Gillian, the founder of Reality Rally delivered the donation to Kim Gerrish the Director of Michelle’s Place and they were most appreciative.
Handing over the donation "Covid Style" !!!!
I am a Veteran and I started supporting other gardeners in the local community garden which has raised beds by watering them as many of the gardeners are elderly and are avoiding people due to Covid 19. So I help those who have plots and can't get out so, coordinating with the Gardening Community, myself and other Vets stop by and offer support by watering and adding fertilizer.
I am also a published author and have had success with my first book.
I also spend my time working on my next book out in December The Russian Job. I look forward to getting that one out as it was conceived in 2015 but did not start on it until earlier this year.
I also have spent time with a group Black Survivor Alliance of former contestants that are working to improve the game in many ways and CBS and Survivor have welcomed our participation. I think the fans will learn more about our joint efforts in the coming months.
I recognized that America, indeed the world is going through a very difficult period but we all have to do what we can to be of service to others and that's why I am grateful that I can support Michelle Place through Reality Rally.
Thank you Peets Coffee for caring for your community and us.
