Today’s “Up Close and Personal” interview will feature Ardice Farrow, a Reality Rally supporter who lives in Culver City and an entrepreneur helping women around the world to take control of their lives.

About a year ago, Farrow founded a company called “Net Effects Traders” after working for a non-profit organization for several years in Cambodia.

Although she valued the work of non-profits she saw the huge and lasting impact that Trader instead of Aid could make.  Farrow decided to start her own company.

“I really realized that if I was committed to impacting generational poverty, ending generational poverty, the most effective thing I could do was to participated in training women and people who would not necessarily get training, providing them with good jobs, fair wages, and great working conditions,” Farrow said.

Thus, Net Effects Traders was born. Today, Farrow works here in the United States to build up sales and marketing for her company’s products, while her design and production partner works in Cambodia to provide disenfranchised women with critical skills. She calls the company's work: "fashion with passion".

“We are really committed to women everywhere,” she said.

When Farrow decided she wanted to contribute a portion of the company’s proceeds to a small, local organization, she chose Reality Rally after a friend who had received services at Michelle’s Place referred her to the non-profit. After meeting Gillian in person and touring Michelle’s Place, the hearts of the volunteers behind both organizations touched Farrow and she knew it was exactly where she wanted to donate.

“It know from personal experience the small, local organizations provide so much support not only for the women that are dealing with [their cancer] but also for the families for all the things that go on and all the things that happen. So Reality Rally and Michele's Place just seemed the perfect groups to support.” Farrow said.

To raise money, Net Effects launched a “Pink Bag Promotion” fundraiser in October. By selling tote and cosmetic bags designed and produced in Cambodia at a special price, Farrow raised $1000 for Reality Rally.

“We wanted to have a fun campaign that would draw attention to our company but will also give back to organizations like Michelle’s Place,” explained Farrow.

This year, Farrow looks forward to attending her first Reality Rally.

“I’m excited by the dynamics about it and how much fun it would be!” she said.

Overall, Farrow is thrilled to tie her company’s efforts together with the efforts of Reality Rally and Michelle’s Place.

“We’re an international company so we are committed to women worldwide. It’s just really amazing to see women helping women globally,” Farrow said, choking up. “In our company, all you need to do is buy something that you love and you’re making a difference in a woman’s life. With Reality Rally, all you have to do is come and have a good time and you’re making a difference. It’s that sense of women globally celebrating each other in a thousand different small ways that are going to make a difference.”

Thank you for your amazing support, Ardice! Can’t wait to see you.
